Listen to Obituary

Nicholas Fisher, 22, of Lynchburg, VA, went home to the house of the Father on July 5, 2026. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on December 6, 2003, he was the eldest child of Benjamin and Theresa (Ford) Fisher. The sheer grit and ginger personality of his redhead nature was apparent in the indomitable spirit that helped him with his early medical issues in the NICU and throughout his life. He tempered it with a fun sense of humor and an amazing smile that made everyone's day. During his final illness, more than one nurse spoke of his smile and one in particular told his mother: "I get one smile from Nick, and it's a good shift!"

Nicholas enjoyed outings with his large and boisterous family, particularly road trips where he enjoyed truck-spotting. He was a graduate of Seton Home Study School in 2023, earning a high school diploma through a special needs curriculum. Audiobooks were among his favorite listens, and thanks to his knack of repetition, most of the household have memorized whole sections of "Narnia," "The Secret Garden," and selections from P. G. Wodehouse. He was always eager to share his joy of music, particularly Christmas music (which he felt should be played from October 25 through January). He cherished his Catholic faith from his childhood, and when he could no longer attend Mass in person, he often watched livestream Masses and prayed daily with the EWTN app on his iPad. His favorite prayer was the Rosary.

Nicholas is survived by his parents; brothers Zachary, Nathaniel, and Xavier Fisher; sisters Abigail, Margaret, Elinor, Anna, Mary Elizabeth, Evelyn, Catherine, Bridget, and Rosalie Fisher. He is also survived by his paternal grandfather, Daniel C. Fisher III; maternal grandparents Mark and Marie Ford; four aunts, two uncles, and seven cousins. He was preceded in death by five miscarried siblings: Jacob, John, Claire, Brendan, and Alexander; as well as by his maternal grandmother, Nancy Fisher. It is our firm hope they are rejoicing to see his smile now.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Ascension St. Vincent Indianapolis, and especially Centra Specialty Hospital Lynchburg, Lynchburg General ER, transport staff, and Lynchburg General staff of ICU C23 for their supportive and amazing care for Nicholas during the last several months of his life. Their care, understanding, friendship, and enjoyment of Nicholas' humor was much appreciated by him as well as his family. We also want to thank our parish family of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church and Nicholas' worldwide group of prayer warriors who all helped strengthen and sustain the entire family during this time.

The Mass will be live streamed on the Holy Name of mary Catholic Church facebook page.

The funeral Mass will be held Friday, July 10, at 11am at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, Bedford. Visitation and recitation of the Rosary will precede it at Holy Name of Mary at 10am. Interment will follow the service at Resurrection Catholic Church 15353 Moneta Rd. Moneta Virginia, 24121. Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford is assisting the family.

Nicholas had a habit of selecting lines on his iPad from an audiobook, video, or song lyrics to speak for him when he found one to suit his mood, so from one of his favorites: "and since it fell unto my lot, that I should rise and you should not, I gently rise, and softly call: good night, and joy be to you all."
