Milton John Green

With profound love and deep gratitude for a life well lived, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Milton John Green, age 85, of Lynchburg, Virginia, who peacefully departed this life on July 9, 2026. His life was a testament to love, strength, generosity, and unwavering devotion to everyone he encountered. While our hearts grieve his passing, we rejoice in knowing that he has entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior, where there is no more pain, suffering, or sorrow.

Milton was born on May 24, 1941, in Lynchburg, Virginia, to the late Robert and Blanche Green. He attended Lynchburg City Schools and graduated from Dunbar High School with the Class of 1959. Affectionately known by many as "Bro" or "Green,"

Milton never met a stranger. He possessed a warm spirit, an infectious smile, and a generous heart that made everyone feel welcome. He found genuine joy in helping others and brightened the lives of countless people through his kindness and conversation.

Milton began his career with Lynchburg Foundry, where he became well known as a cheerful and energetic mailman whose daily interactions brought smiles to those around him. Following the closing of the Foundry, he continued his servant's heart while employed as a Greeter at Walmart in Madison Heights, Virginia. Customers often looked forward to seeing him, sharing conversations, and receiving the warmth and encouragement that came so naturally to him.

Most importantly, Milton loved the Lord. He was baptized on October 6, 1949, under the pastoral leadership of Rev. M. C. Sutherland. A faithful and devoted member of Rivermont Baptist Church, he served the congregation with humility and dedication as a Senior Usher, Trustee, member of the Sanctuary Choir, and Budget Committee. He remained committed to his church family and faithfully attended worship until declining health limited his ability to do so.

In addition to his parents, Milton was preceded in death by his beloved sisters, Christine Proffitt, Helen Hancock, and Mildred Green; his brother, Robert Green; and his brothers-in-law, Joseph Davis and John Hancock.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory his loving daughter, Ayonna Carper (Robert); his beloved siblings, Selena Davis, Bobbette Green, and Albert Green (Renee); his cherished granddaughters, Akira Hanson (Hal) and Tiarra Harris; his treasured great-granddaughter, Tatumn Harris; his devoted niece and nephew, Regina Scott and Kent Scott; his loving niece, Patricia Ware; his devoted companion, Shirley Sparrow; his godson, Ernest Hawkins, Jr.; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, his Rivermont Baptist Church family, and countless dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by his love, wisdom, and unwavering kindness.

Although our hearts grieve his absence, we find comfort in God's promise that this farewell is only temporary. We rejoice in knowing that Milton has received the reward prepared for those who faithfully trust in the Lord. His legacy of faith, compassion, service, humility, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

The family will be receiving friends on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Milton's life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Rivermont Baptist Church.
