They lived there until 2022 when they moved to Lynchburg, VA to be near family who had relocated from CA to VA. In retirement, Mike enjoyed traveling, motorcycle road trips, golf, fishing, and most of all, spending time with family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. In 2014, Mike committed his life to Jesus Christ, and going to church, spending time with his church family, also became a source of great joy in his remaining retirement years.

Throughout his ten-year battle with MSA, at times enduring unbearable suffering, Mike remained in a place of steadfast love and gratitude towards God, never questioning His goodness, always thanking Him in prayer for his many blessings, especially his family and friends. This continues to be a source of comfort and inspiration for those who knew and loved him.
