Michael Harrison Driskill passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. He was the eldest son of June Reynolds Driskill and David A. Driskill.
Michael is survived by his cherished wife of 30 years, Lois, two grandchildren, Kayce Falls and Liam Lippert, and two beloved brothers, Ronald D. Driskill (Trisha) and Mark E. Driskill (Sharon) and their children.
He graduated from EC Glass High School (1965) and received a BS degree in Industrial Technology from Tennessee Technological University.
He retired from the United States Air Force with the rank of Major. He was a Master Navigator, flight instructor, flight examiner, and Flight Operations Staff Officer in KC-135 aircraft. He also served a tour of duty as a Quality Manager in the Propulsion Systems Program Office. His most rewarding assignment was flying air refueling missions with SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance aircraft during the Vietnam War era. This assignment also allowed him to travel in Europe and the Pacific.
His second retirement was from the Amherst, Virginia, Glad division of the Clorox Company, as Quality Assurance Manager for twelve years.
After two long careers, he was twice elected as Town Councilman for the Town of Amherst.
Michael’s favorite activities were tending to his numerous cats and dogs, working on his beautiful yard (specializing in giant elephant ear plants and banana trees), doting on Kayce and Liam, playing with the neighborhood kids, laughing with his brothers, and spending quiet summer evenings sitting outside with Lois.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In accordance with Michael’s wishes, friends are invited to gather at Loose Shoe Brewing Company in Amherst following the service at 5:00 p.m. to raise a pint and enjoy a time of fellowship together.
