Melvin Pegram

Born May 25, 1941 to Troy and Edna Pegram in Kernersville NC where he grew up

working on the family farm with his eight siblings.

After graduating from Stokesdale High School and working for several years, he enlisted in the US Army where he served in the 385th Military Police Battalion and then served in the US Army Reserves until 1968. He obtained his private pilot license in 1967 and also owned/operated Pegram Tree Service in Browns Summit during the early 70’s. He was employed as a lineman for over 40 years, having worked for Duke Power, Davis H Elliot, and Pike Electric (from where he retired).

He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and farming. He loved tending to his grapevines and blackberries. A favorite hobby was prospecting, metal detecting, treasure hunting, and simply enjoying the geology and geography of Mother Earth.

He is survived by his loving wife, of 56 years, beside whom he spent many days rocking on their porch, enjoying the nature around them. He is also survived by his daughter, Lisa Phelps, Son-In-Law David , two grandchildren, Rachel and Ryan, and several siblings, nieces, and nephews.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, is assisting the family.
