Melinda Carine Anderson, affectionately known as “Lucy” was born on December 25, 1978, in Bedford, Virginia, and passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was 46 years old.
Melinda was a devoted mother, a passionate caregiver, and a woman of extraordinary strength, compassion, and resilience. From the age of 16, she dedicated herself to serving others in the healthcare field. Caring for the elderly was not just her job- it was her calling. Her gentle heart and unwavering commitment brought comfort and joy to so many other the years.
She was a proud and loving mother to Josiah, Jodiah and Mariah Anderson, and recently embraced the special joy of becoming a grandmother to Pruedence Anderson. Her family was her world, and she worked tirelessly to provide for them, always putting their needs first.
Melinda was also driven by a desire to grow and achieve. While continuing to work in healthcare, she pursued her studies to become a Certified Public Accountant and successfully started her own tax preparation business- an accomplishment that reflected her determined and entrepreneurial spirit.
On September 11, 2022, Melinda experienced a life-changing incident that altered the course of her life. In the years that followed, her devoted mother, Gail Davis, became her steadfast caregiver, standing by her with love, strength, and grace every single day.
Melinda is survived by her children, Josiah, Jodiah and Mariah Anderson; her cherished granddaughter, Pruedence Anderson; her mother, Gail Davis; and her father, Garland Davis. She also leaves behind her loving siblings: Charlie (Heather) Anderson, Natasha (Anthony) Lyttle, Dana (Weslet) Paul, Keisha Davis, and Janet (Shelvin) McGee.
Melinda’s special aunt, Patricia Parker, stood faithfully by her and her mother’s side from day one. Always just a phone call away, Patricia’s love, guidance, and presence were a true blessing during the most difficult times.
Melinda was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Arlene Major.
She also held a deep love for her beloved aunts and uncles, whose presence, support, and encouragement meant the world to her throughout her life.
She is also survived by a host of extended family members and close friends who will forever cherish her memory.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff of Oakwood Manor, who provided care and compassion during Melinda’s final eight months, and to the wonderful Bedford Hospice nurses, whose support brought comfort in her final days.
Melinda’s life was a beautiful testament to live, perseverance, and faith. Her light will continue to shine through the lives she touched and the legacy she leaves behind.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
