Matilda Rosetta Scott 72 of Lynchburg Virginia passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at her residence. She was born on August 4, 1953, to the late Highland, Pete Hubbard Junior and Eileen Scott Leftwich.

In addition to her parent, she was proceeded in death by her maternal grandparents, John Daniel, Scott and Anna Lee Jackson Scott, paternal grandparents, Henry Highland Hubbard and Marjorie Payne Hubbard, two brothers Eric flash Hubbard and Thomas Scott Cannon, one Aunt Mary, Matilda, Scott Culpepper.

Matilda attended Lynchburg City Schools. She participated in the marching band at Dunbar and E.C. Glass. She was part of the 1972 graduating class of E.C. Glass High School. After graduating high school Matilda spent three years in Nashville, Tennessee, and did work in accounting until her mother became ill and she returned to Lynchburg. She also obtained an associate’s degree from CVCC. She was employed by C.R. Hudgins for over 30 years and retired from Horizon Behavioral Health where she worked with at risk youth. She also worked with individuals suffering from substance abuse, and intellectual disabilities. Matilda enjoyed fishing and the thrill of slot machines. She was indeed a people person and never met a stranger. She would talk to anyone and by the end of the conversation it was like they had known each other for years. She also enjoyed watching football and was a big fan of the New York Giants.

Those left to cherish her memory include one brother, Hylan “Hank” Hubbard (Ryan); two first cousins, Lisa Culpepper-Beverly and Sandra Haythe “Greg”; her lifetime partner, Valerie William Martin; nephew, Hylan Hubbard IV; niece, Carmen D. Hubbard; best friend, Brenda Fletcher Johnson; sister-in-law, Patricia Cannon, along with many other loving relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. The family will be receiving family and friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Tharp Lynchburg.
