Mary Louise Ware Wood

Mary Louise Ware Wood, 88, of Salem, Virginia, passed away on August 13, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Ashton Ware and Mary Margaret Williams Ware.

Louise was born on February 28, 1937, in Amherst County, Virginia. She attended and graduated from Boonsboro High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Alfred James Halterman (dec.), and had one son, George Allen Halterman (dec.) residing in Akron, Ohio. After Alfred’s passing, Louise returned to Virginia and met “Woody” (dec.).

After moving to Salem, they joined Locust Grove United Methodist Church, where she assisted in the office for many years.

Louise is survived by her son, Roy Thomas Wood, Jr.; grandchild, Matthew Allen Halterman; siblings, Arlene Campbell, Doris Dalton, Rosa Brunner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Wade, Irvin, and Edward Ware, and her sister Lucy Bowen.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Locust Grove United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 11 A.M. at the chapel of Fort Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Russ Grisham officiating.
