Mary Frances DeWitt, 87, of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away on April 21, 2026. She was born on March 14, 1939, to the late James Melvin DeWitt, Sr. and Katie Elizabeth Reynold DeWitt.
Mary was lovingly known for her vibrant spirit and kind heart. She spent many cherished years in her home on Fleetwood Drive, where she created a lifetime of memories with family and friends, and later enjoyed being part of the Wyndhurst community that she loved so much.
Mary was a lively, caring soul who found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life. She loved cooking for those she cared about, practicing tai chi and yoga, traveling, and especially spending time by her pool on Fleetwood Drive. That pool became the heart of countless special moments; birthday parties, Fourth of July celebrations, and spontaneous gatherings filled with laughter and love.
She was a dedicated and long-standing employee of General Electric and Ericsson in Lynchburg, where she took great pride in her work and built lasting relationships.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Allison Hogan. She is survived by her son-in-law, Terry Hogan; her grandchildren, Lindsay Hogan, Mandi Green, and Carly Epperson; and her seven great-grandchildren.
Mary’s warmth, energy, and love for her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Her favorite words, “send them love,” will continue to guide those who knew her.
No formal services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the YWCA of Lynchburg in her honor.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg is assisting the family.
