Marvin Price Owen

Marvin Price Owen, 86, of Lynchburg passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2026. He was the husband of the late Helen Reynolds Owens for 56 years until her death in 2021.

Marvin was born in Halifax County, Virginia, on January 5, 1940, a son of the late E.B. Owen and Edith Wade Owen. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Reynolds, a brother Edwill Owen, a sister Gaye Stevens, and a loyal canine companion “Lady”.

Marvin was a graduate of Halifax High School and then moved to Lynchburg after high school and began a long career in the grocery business. He worked at Colonial Stores, Big Star, and later at Wilbuns in Appomattox. Later in life he also worked for Taylor Brothers. Marvin was a dedicated hard worker who enjoyed his work and the people he met and encountered over the years. He honorably served his country in the U.S. National Guard, loved yard work, softball, bowling, miniature golf, car shows, and being outside in his retirement years. Family and the family get-togethers were his favorite times.

He is survived by his daughter Laura Scott and husband Brian of Lynchburg, granddaughter Kristy Scott and husband Aaron of Henrico, a sister Linda Tuck of Lynchburg, and a brother-in-law Ronnie Stevens of Appomattox.

Marvin’s health declined in the later years, but he kept a positive attitude and a smile even as his memory faded and his body grew tired. He was loved and will be forever missed as he begins his next journey.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 8, 2026, in Fort Hill Memorial Park with Chaplain Wayne Lanham officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Association or to the Lynchburg Humane Society.
