Marilyn Beatrice Moir

Marilyn Beatrice Moir, 82, of Forest, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 24, 2026. She was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania on January 22, 1944 to the late Ephraim Shaw and Elizabeth Jane Annan Shaw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William "Bill" Willis Moir, sister, Patricia Smith and brother Keith Shaw.

She was a devoted and joyful member of Heritage Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, Awanas leader, and an enthusiastic participant in the Young at Heart class. She carried a heart of gold and always thought of others first, living out her faith through quiet acts of kindness and genuine compassion.

Her life was marked by graciousness, warmth, and a deep passion for keeping family close. She found delight in camping, cooking, gardening, and hosting tea parties, but nothing brought her greater joy than time spent with her children and grandchildren. In her kitchen, she patiently taught each of them how to cook, gently encouraging good manners and thoughtful etiquette in all things.

A lifelong admirer of Cinderella, she visited Disney World twice and cherished the magical experience of dining inside Cinderella’s Castle. Her beautiful singing voice was one of her most memorable gifts—she could lift any moment with a song, often inspired by a single word spoken.

She was a loving wife, a steadfast follower of Christ, and a woman whose faith remained unwavering. Even in her suffering, she continued to minister to others and praise God with a spirit that inspired everyone around her.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marilyn is survived by her son, William "Bill" Moir (Kim), daughter, Denise Lacy and husband Robert; grandchildren, Holli Stewart (Joshua), Chase Lawhorne (Kristen) and Heidi Moir; great-grandchildren, Kaytlin, Chase, Blake, Brooklyn, McKenna, and Beckett; and siblings, Bruce Shaw, Nancy Varano, Teea Johnson, Glenn Shaw and Susan Betham; and her special four-legged friend, Fluffy.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Heritage Baptist Church, 219 Breezewood Dr. Lynchburg, VA 24502. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
