Marie Therese Kenefick Murphy

Marie Therese Kenefick Murphy, 93, of Lynchburg, died on Thursday, July 4, 2025. Marie was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 26, 1931. Marie was the daughter of the late James and Agnes Moore Kenefick. She was raised and educated in Utica, New York and was a graduate of Utica Catholic Academy. On September 12, 1953, Marie was married to William T. Murphy, Jr. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica, NY.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William. She was also predeceased by two daughters, Diane Agnes Murphy and Mary Patricia Murphy, a son William Patrick Murphy, and two brothers, Joseph and James Kenefick.

She is survived by one daughter and two sons. Karen M. Murphy of New Castle, CO, Thomas J. Murphy of Virginia Beach, VA, and Kevin J. Murphy and wife Susan of Newport News, VA; one granddaughter and nine grandsons, Chelsea (Scott) Schneier, Derek (Jenna) McGuire of Colorado, and Dylan (Raya) McGuire of Iowa, Daniel and Joseph Murphy of North Carolina, Christian (Mia) Murphy, Connor (Andrea) Murphy, Caleb Murphy, Lucas Murphy, and Theo Murphy of Virginia, and six great-grandchildren.

Marie has been a resident of Lynchburg since 1959 and has been an active member of Holy Cross parish, Lynchburg. A funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Holy Cross JOY fund or to a charity of your choice.
