Maggie Ann Staton Tyree, 84, of Lynchburg, passed away on May 23, 2026. She was born in Amherst, Virginia, on March 18, 1942, a daughter of the late Abner Garrett Staton and Hattie Brown Tomlin Staton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James L. Tyree Jr., who passed in November of 2011.

Maggie was a hardworking woman who spent many years employed as a machine operator with Paktron Company. Following her retirement, she enjoyed staying busy and went to work at Food Lion, where she continued to meet people and share her warm personality.

She was known for her good sense of humor and loved making people laugh. Maggie enjoyed shopping with her beloved friend, Phyllis Childress, going on trips with her other beloved friend, Jewell Price, and spending time with her family. Her family will remember her for her caring spirit, her laughter, and the joy she brought to everyday moments.

Maggie is survived by her son, Thomas Tyree and his wife, Wendy Tyree; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members.

In addition to her parents, Maggie is preceded in death by her eleven siblings, James Thomas, Edward William, Mattie Mae, Jessie Garland, Sadie Lou, Roy Lester, Rosa Bell, Dora Lee, Andrew Oliver, Luther Page, and Ruby Louise.

A visitation will be held on Thursday May 28, 2026, from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Tharp Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at Fort Hill Memorial Park, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or American Parkinson Disease Association.
