Madaline Mccausland Martin

Madaline McCausland Martin, 97, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013. She was the first of four siblings, born August 24, 1915, to Hugh Glenn & Madaline Shaner McCausland.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Thomas Martin; sons Samuel Thomas Martin, Jr., Stephen Noble Martin, and David Sperry Martin; and siblings Hugh Glenn McCausland, Jr., and Jean McCausland Lyle.

She is survived by one brother, James Earle \"Buddy\" McCausland, and brother-in-law Al Lyle; grandchildren Samuel Thomas Martin, III, Elizabeth Martin Faircloth, Christopher Richard Martin, David Reid Martin, Alison Martin Cox; great-grandchildren Meagan & Lindsay Faircloth, Kelly Martin Legge, Samuel Thomas Martin, IV, Garrett & Madaline Cox; great-great-grandchildren Liam Legge and Kaiya Martin; and many nieces and nephews.

 Madaline devoted her life to church, charity, and family. She was the 1st female Elder at First Presbyterian Church, served on 3 Pastor Search Committees & chaired 1, taught adult Sunday School class for more than 50 years, twice President of Women of the Church, several times circle chairman.

 She served on the Board of Presbyterian Homes & Family Services for 50 years and was Secretary of that Board most of that time, but is possibly better remembered by anyone who passed through there as a young child during her tenure as \"The Reading Lady,\" for her faithful weekly readings of wonderful books and stories.

 She served on the Board of the Florence Crittenton Home, was a former member of Oakwood Garden Club & once President of that group, and was a former member of both Oakwood & Boonsboro Country Clubs.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 2:00 pm with the Rev. John Scholar officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
