Lynore Eve “Lyn” Long, 86, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday August 18th, 2026.

Lyn was the devoted wife of William Long for 52 years before his passing in 2014.

Lyn was born on June 6th, 1940, in Carlinville, Illinois, the daughter of John Rossetti and Helen Chulick. Lyn was a graduate of the University of Illinois, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in music. She was a parishioner of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Lyn worked for decades as a music teacher at various schools in Lynchburg including Seven Hills, RS Payne, Holy Cross and Dearington.

Lyn had a passion for the Arts: she was a regular performer with local theater groups, directed the choir at St. Thomas More Church and loved to paint. She was an avid volunteer with various groups including directing Bell Choirs, Special Olympics, and the Lynchburg Aquatic League.

Lyn was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Cox. She is survived by her three sons Brian Long and his wife Kelly, of Blacksburg, Kevin Long and Darren Long, who both live in Lynchburg, grandchildren Elizabeth Long of Blacksburg and Morelli Payne of Charleston, South Carolina.

Lyn touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of laughter and music.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.

A celebration of Lyn’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2026, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Red Cross.
