Luanne Elizabeth Lewis Coker

Luanne Elizabeth Lewis Coker of Lynchburg, VA, passed away September 12, 2025 at the age of 95 years old. She was born July 26, 1930 in Chattanooga, TN, daughter of the late Arthur Bernard Lewis and Helen Robertson Lewis. She is survived by her children Sherry Coker, Lamar Coker, and Cindy Coker Martin and children that preceded her in death Lori Coker Short, and Robin Lewis Coker. In addition to her children, left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren Will Joslin, Ross Martin, Tyler Short and Kelsey Short Rodin (Josh), great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Luanne attended the University of Georgia (Atlanta) where she met Sherry in biology class. They were married 70 years and were partners in raising a family, sailing, camping and travel. Fun fact: she was Sherry’s first mate and navigator as they sailed the Chesapeake Bay and Inland Waterway.

From a young age Luanne was a voracious reader and talented artist. She loved her life’s work as a full-time wife and mother. She was an expert seamstress, gardener and was active and involved in her faith community. She researched her family’s heritage, traveling in the US and abroad and proudly published a book with the family history. The family has chosen to hold a private service.
