Louella Jane Mertz

Louella Jane Mertz, 74, of Madison Heights, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was the loving wife of Jonathan Mertz for 8 wonderful years.

Louella was born on March 16, 1952, in Binghamton, New York, the oldest of 8 siblings. Louella loved playing word games on her tablet, knitting scarves, hats, and blankets for loved ones, and especially spending time with her family and her beloved Dachshund dogs: Poppy and Miss Priss. Louella attended Amelon United Methodist Church in Madison Heights, and previously attended Court Street United Methodist Church (formerly in Lynchburg).

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Lori and her husband Eddie, her sons Fred and his wife Annabelle and David, her bonus daughter Ruth and her husband Zack, as well as 12 grandchildren and a growing number of great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Centra Hospice for their care of Louella as well as all the people who prayed for her and offered their support to her and her family. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
