Lorraine Helen Conklin, 90, passed away March 25, 2026 with her granddaughter Brittany Conklin at her side at Lynchburg General Hospital after a brief illness in Lynchburg, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 50 years Harry C. Conklin, her parents Julia and Frank Caiaffo, her sisters Nancy Anna and Rosemarie Caiaffo, her daughter Robin (husband Peter) Crosby.
She is survived by her five sons, Vernon (wife Beverly) Conklin of Florida, Randall (wife Maura) Conklin of North Carolina, Bryan (wife Deborah) Conklin of Virginia, Mark (wife Janet) Conklin of Connecticut, and Keith Conklin of Florida. She had twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Lorraine was born on June 26, 1935 in New Haven, Connecticut. She grew up in the New Haven area and graduated from Wilbur Cross High School in 1954. She lived three years in California and did some traveling with friends before meeting
Harry Conklin in 1971. They married soon after on March 3, 1972 in North Branford, Connecticut. She worked for Bullard's Furniture Store as a secretary as well as Southern Connecticut State College in the cafeteria. In 1991, at the time of her husband's retirement they moved to Ladylake, Florida where they lived for 25 years. In 2017, she moved to Virginia with Harry and their dog Max to be closer to family. She lived out the last years of her life in Virginia. She enjoyed people and parties: as a result, Lorraine arranged celebrations for her 50th wedding anniversary in 2022 and her 90th birthday last year inviting many family and friends.
Her final resting place will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida where she joins her beloved Harry.
A memorial service in celebration of Lorraine's life is to be held at Forest Community Fellowship in Forest, Virginia on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 11 AM. Family and friends are invited to gather at that time as well as to share a memory or condolences with the family at Tharp Funeral Home's website.
