Lillie Glenn Harvey

On the evening of August 7, 2026, surrounded by her family and loved ones, a beloved anchor of the Roach family was called home as Lillie Glenn Harvey of Lynchburg, Va., peacefully departed this earthly life to be with the Lord.

Born April 29, 1938, Lillie was one of seven daughters born to Eugene R. Roach and Sylvia B. Roach. She accepted Christ and joined Holcomb Rock Baptist Church at a young age, faithfully serving the Lord throughout her life, including as a member of the Usher Board.

A dedicated and hardworking woman, Lillie spent many years as a cook at Eagle Eyrie Baptist Conference Center. Her love of cooking continued at home, where family and church gatherings were made special by dishes prepared by her hands, especially her potato salad and sweet potato pie.

Above all, Lillie cherished time with her family. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings, playing dominoes with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, completing word puzzles, singing, watching her stories, Jeopardy!, and Wheel of Fortune. Through these simple moments, she created memories her family will cherish.

Lillie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert “Bobby” K. Harvey; her parents; and her sisters, Janie R. Gilmore, Mary A. Roach, and Arie (Rita) Hairston.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Barbara Harvey (Charles), Cindy Read (Darnell), Gwendolyn Harvey, Ella Scott, Robert Harvey (Toni), and James Harvey (Dee Dee); grandchildren: Darnell “DJ” Read (Margaret), Melissa Harvey, Cherelle Read, Damicka Marshall-Harvey, Tiffany Harvey, Iesha Scott (Stephan), Robert “RJ” Harvey Jr., and Jamie Harvey; and 17 great-grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and dear friends.

Lillie also leaves to cherish her memory her beloved sisters and fellow matriarchs of the Roach family, Bernice Watson, Jenny McCoy and Jean Joyner.

Lillie’s life was one of faith, family, service, and love. Though her presence will be deeply missed, the love, traditions, wisdom, and faith she shared will continue to live through those she leaves behind.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Holcomb Rock Baptist Church. Interment will be held in the Church Cemetery.
