Lila Abrash Rosenthal, 100, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2026. She was the wife of the late Dr. Macey Herschel Rosenthal.
Lila was born on May 2, 1926, in Patterson, New Jersey, a daughter of the late George Abrash and Ann Gold Abrash. Lila received her Master’s Degree in Education and then married the love of her life Macey on June 10th, 1945, at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. She was a devoted homemaker, wife, and mother to her family. Lila was called later in life to her Bat Mitzvah at age 90 at Agudath Shalom Synagogue where she faithfully attended.
She is survived by her children: Dr. Macey H. Rosenthal, Jr. of Berkeley, CA; Stephen D. Rosenthal and his wife Cindy of Richmond; two daughters: Nancy B. Rosenthal and her husband James B. Nevin of New York, NY; Sally N. Rosenthal of Palo Alto, CA; one granddaughter: Courtney B. Rosenthal of Richmond; and a brother Merrit Abrash of New York City, NY.
A funeral service for Lila will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Agudath Shalom Synagogue in Lynchburg with Rabbi Harley Karz-Wagman officiating. Interment will follow at Beth Joseph Cemetery in Madison Heights.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Agudath Sholom Synagogue, 2055 Langhorne Road, Lynchburg, VA 24501; Camp Kum-Ba-Yah, 4415 Boonsboro Road, Lynchburg, VA 24503 or the Lynchburg Humane Society.
