Leslie John Dziewisz, 73, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 1, 1952, in Wadsworth, Ohio, he was the son of the late Joseph and Florence Dziewisz.

After graduating from E.C. Glass High School in 1970, Les earned a bachelor's degree in history from the Virginia Military Institute in 1974. Upon graduation, Les was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. He served honorably as a Tank Unit Commander with 3rd Battalion, 77th Armor at Fork Polk, Louisiana from 1974 to 1976. He took great pride in his service and in leading those under his command. Upon his discharge from the Army, Les embarked on his long career in bridge and road construction, retiring with Landford Brothers of Roanoke, Virginia in 2021.

Above all else, Les was a devoted father and grandfather who enjoyed spending his retirement years with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter Jillian Fauver (Casey) and grandson Owen, his son Jonathon Dziewisz (Mary-Brugh), his sister Susan Bartlebaugh (Jim), his brothers Michael (Terry), Larry and John (Diane), his sister-in-law Glo Dziewisz, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his cherished grand cat and grand dogs, whom he loved like his own. He is preceded in death by grandson Wade Fauver and his brother Robert Dziewisz.

Les will be remembered for his strength, his deep love for his family, and the quiet humility with which he lived. He cherished cooking and entertaining, bringing loved ones together and making sure everyone was well fed, felt welcome and had a good time.

A private military service with honors with be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VMI Alumni Agencies to support cadet scholarships
