Leonard Jackson Layne

Leonard Jackson Layne, 88, of Staunton, formerly of Rustburg, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

Leonard was born on December 2, 1937, in Campbell County, Virginia, a son of the late Thomas Richard Layne and Ella White Layne. Leonard was retired as a shipping coordinator from Aerofin in Lynchburg and was a member of the Community Fellowship Baptist Church in Rustburg.

He is survived by his son Jack Layne (Kassie) of Staunton, a daughter Deborah Layne Bryant (Lewis) of Lynchburg, and one granddaughter Jenna Perry of Lynchburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Raleigh, Willard, Charlie, and Acie Layne, two sisters: Libby Wright and Frances Matthews.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.

A Celebration of Leonard’s Life will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2025, in the chapel at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg with the Rev. Roger Roller officiating. Interment will be held privately at Cumbie Memorial Cemetery at a later date. In honor of Leonard's vibrant spirit and "snazzy" attire, the family requests guests add a pop of bright, joyful color.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
