LaVaughn Wooden Phillips, 83, of Goode, Virginia, passed away at her home on Friday, July 3, 2026. The home she and her beloved husband built together. She was the daughter of the late John James and Mary Aline Ferguson Wooden.

Born on March 24, 1943, in Lynchburg, Virginia, LaVaughn was a proud graduate of E.C. Glass High School, Class of 1961. Alongside her husband, she was one of the founders and the driving force behind Phillips Wheel Alignment in Lynchburg, where her dedication, hard work, and unwavering support helped build a successful family business.

LaVaughn had a true passion for cooking and hospitality. Together with her dear friend, Delores Perdue, she co-founded the catering business Two P's in a Pod. She was happiest in the kitchen, preparing meals for those she loved and was well known for hosting family gatherings and holiday dinners. Her homemade spaghetti dinners became a cherished meal amongst her family and church members.

A longtime member of Forest Road United Methodist Church, LaVaughn faithfully served as Chairman of the Fellowship Committee for many years. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, devoted grandmother, and faithful church member, and the heart of her family. She treasured making memories with those she loved, especially during beach vacations and family celebrations. She also enjoyed gathering every other month with her lifelong high school friends, friendships she deeply cherished.

Known for her generous spirit, LaVaughn was often the first to prepare a meal for someone in need or lend a helping hand. She was truly the matriarch of her family. The one who brought everyone together and kept them connected. She also had a lifelong love for Elvis Presley and his music.

LaVaughn is survived by her loving husband, Randall Kent Phillips, Sr. “Skeeter”; her daughter, Sherry Phillips Dean and her husband, Jeffrey; her son, Randall "Kent" Phillips, Jr. and his wife, Connie; her grandchildren, Randall Kent Phillips, III ”Trey”. and Ellen Phillips; her nephew, David Doss; her long time dear friend, Delores Perdue; and numerous extended family members and friends throughout the community.
