Larry E. Carson, 85, of Lynchburg, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on August 31, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on March 25 1941 to the late Charles and Bertha Selma Carson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife of 63 years, Helen H. Carson, the love of his life and his faithful partner through every joy and every challenge. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to enduring love, unwavering commitment, and shared faith.

He was also preceded in death by his great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Martin and Blakely Campbell.

Known and loved by so many as “Papa,” Larry devoted his life to his family. He is survived by his daughters, Marie Carson, Teresa Mixell, and Roxanne Carson (Belton); his son, Larry “Bubba” Carson Jr. (Sandra); his grandchildren, Brandie Rose (Percy), Joshua Pettyjohn, Justen Hargis, Joseph Campbell, Avery Campbell (Sade), Matthew Campbell, Alicia Mixell (Colleen), Ashley Major (Matt), Paul Ormsby, and Tiffany Whorley (Dustin); and his great-grandchildren, Cooper, Emmalee, Harley, Rhylee, McKenzie, Tristan, Jacob, and David. He also leaves behind his beloved grand-dog, “Bella,” who held a special place in his heart.

Larry was no stranger to hard work and commitment. He worked as a welder for 42 years at Lynchburg Steel Company & Specialty, where he took great pride in his craft. He even had the honor of using his welding expertise on the World Trade Building—a job he was proud of and had the pictures to prove it.

A devoted patriot, Larry proudly served his country as a soldier in the Army National Guard. His love for his country was an important part of who he was, and he carried that pride throughout his life.

Larry was a proud Christian. In his younger years, he played drums for the very first Tree of Life Church, where he met Pastor Mike. Music was one of the ways Larry enjoyed worshiping and serving God.

When Larry wasn’t working, watching his Redskins, Gunsmoke and Women’s college softball games on TV, then he was out driving his truck. Let’s just say he turned into a Nascar driver behind the wheel. He got to where he needed to go fast. These simple pleasures, along with a good laugh and time with his family, brought him great joy.

Above all else, Larry was a husband, a father, and a family man. His family was his greatest source of pride and joy. He loved deeply, protected fiercely, and was always there when the people he loved needed him. Though he may not have been the type to say a lot, his family never had to question how much he loved them. His actions spoke volumes.

Larry will be remembered for his quiet strength, his quick wit, his loyalty, his unwavering faith, and his ability to make people smile. He was the kind of man who meant what he said and stood by the people he loved. His legacy is found not only in the words he spoke, but in the lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the legacy he left behind.

He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

A funeral ceremony will be conducted on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Tree of Life Ministries at 2:00 P.M. Mr. Carson will lie in repose for viewing one hour prior to the service.
