Kytha Padgett Bersch

Kytha Padgett Bersch (Helen Kytha Padgett), age 86, passed away on the morning of October 24, 2026, at The Harmony Collection at Roanoke – Memory Care in Roanoke, Virginia.

Kytha was born on January 3, 1940, in Lynchburg, Virginia, to the late Winston I. Padgett and Helen W. Padgett.

She is survived by her brother, Winston I. Padgett, Jr., of Texas, and her sister, Martha P. Osborn, of Virginia.

Kytha pursued her education at James Madison University, Virginia Western Community College, and Roanoke College. Throughout her life, she enjoyed gardening, cooking, ceramics, crafts, sewing, brain teasers, and reading and studying garden design plans. She was also an accomplished golfer and bowler.

Kytha had a great love for animals and especially for the many dogs who shared her life through the years, including Jill, Jodi, and others. Her dogs were beloved companions and an important part of her life.

Professionally, Kytha worked for several years with Business Telecom, Inc., and earlier worked with the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce. She also gave her time to charitable causes, including serving as chair of three fundraising events benefiting the March of Dimes.

Kytha was loved by her many neighbors, with whom she enjoyed walking through the neighborhood, visiting, and sharing stories. She was quick-witted and never hesitant to let you know what she was thinking. She had a special way of making people laugh and of making those around her feel special.

Kytha lived a full life filled with many interests, friendships, beloved animals, creativity, and laughter. Her personality and wit will be remembered by those who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2026 at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
