Kenneth Ray Firkin of Smith Mountain Lake died Friday September 10, 2010, after a brief illness. He was 75.

 He was the son of the late Margaret Woody Firkin and the late Joshua Firkin of Madison Heights, Va., and was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School and Ben Franklin University.

 Mr. Firkin began his career as a certified public accountant for Charlton & Co. in Hyattsville, Md. He retired Aug. 31, 2009, as chief financial officer after more than 30 years\"™ service to Carrollton Enterprises in Beltsville, Md.

 He was never married, but remained close to his mother throughout her life and to his sister and his sisters\"™ family throughout his life. He was a thoughtful and generous man.

 He is survived by a sister and her husband, Joyce and Bill Keesee of Smith Mountain Lake; two nephews and their wives, David and Susan Keesee of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Neal and Julie Keesee of Hartfield, Va.; one niece and her husband, Sherri and John Tombarge of Lexington, Va., and five great-nieces and one great-nephew.

 The family will receive visitors at 2:00 p.m. Sunday Sept. 12, 2010 at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

 Memorials may be made in Kenneth\"™s memory to a charity of your choice.
