Kenneth B. Sauer, Sr.
January 3, 1949 — July 25, 2017
Kenneth B. Sauer, Sr. 68, of Wirtz, VA passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents Jean M. Grant and Ernest A. Sauer, Sr. and his stepfather Edwin L. Grant. He was also preceded by his brother Ernest A. Sauer Jr.
Ken was born in Grandview Hospital in Sellersville, PA on January 3, 1949. He graduated from Hatboro Horsham High School and Delaware Valley College. He was in the Naval Air Reserve for 6 years. During his working years, he enjoyed various management positions in the heavy equipment industry. However, his greatest joy and love was his family. He was an exceptional husband, father, and friend. He was married to Marie C. Sauer for 48 wonderful years. He is survived by his daughter Colleen M. Sauer, Hillsborough, NC and son Kenneth B. Sauer Jr. and wife Monica, Breinigsville, PA. He adored his seven grandchildren, Avery Sauer, Grace Sauer, Nina Sauer, Owen Sauer, Kenny O’Melia, Joey O’Melia and Mikey O”Melia. Their love and support were an inspiration to him during his illness.
After moving from Pennsylvania in 2009 and retiring, Ken not only enjoyed his time on Smith Mountain Lake but also enjoyed volunteering at various organizations and was drawn to helping those in need.
His faith was extremely important to him. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and a Stephen Minister.
A memorial service will be held at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 13586 Old Moneta Rd., Moneta, VA 24121 on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 11:00 am with David Lord officiating. A reception will take place immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ken’s name may be made in his memory to Lake Christian Ministries, P>Box 695, Moneta, VA. 24121.
