Kaye Maddox Hartless, born on February 23, 1939, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her parents, John Edward Maddox and Beulah Wright Maddox, her husband, George A. Hartless, her brothers, John Edward Maddox, Jr., Donald L. Maddox, and Robert G. Maddox, and her step-children, George "Joey" Hartless and Donna Hartless Abbott, and her daughter-in-law, Karen M. Hartless.
Kaye is survived by her twin brother, Ray O. Maddox, her children, Kimberly Lynn Hartless Alexander (Bevin R., Jr.), of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Robert Eric Hartless, of Lynchburg, She is also survived by her grandchildren: Reilly Hartless Mink (Jordan) and Ethan Gray Hartless (Lauren), and step-grandchildren Brianna Abbott Powers, Jennifer Abbott Campbell (Eric), and Thomas A. Abbott, Jr. (Cindy.) Kaye was blessed by many great-grandchildren: Winter, Charlotte, Laurel, Arden, Paxton, Anna, Nicholas, and Sophia.
Kaye graduated from E. C. Glass High School in 1958 and was a life-long resident of Lynchburg. A woman of great faith, she was a member of Timberlake Christian Church for 50 years. She sang alto in the choir and loved her choir family. Outside of her church and choir, Kaye was a talented artist and truly loved her Wednesday morning art class. She and her late husband, George, operated two service stations in the Lynchburg area, Brookville Chevron and Airport Marathon, and Security Storage in Lynchburg. Kay took great pride in her work and her relationships with her customers.
Kaye will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity. Her family would like to thank BrightStar Care and her special caregivers, Donna, Mykayla, and Crystal, for their kindness and compassion over these last three months. We would also like to thank Westminster Hospice, her nurse, Dawn, and aide, Amanda, for their care not only of Kaye but for her children.
Kaye was also a great lover of animals and shared her home and heart with many dogs and cats over the years. No birds or squirrels went hungry in her yard. She was a long-time supporter of Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Inc.
The family will receive visitors at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Dr., Lynchburg, on Thursday, April 16, between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at Timberlake Christian Church, 20261 Lynchburg Hwy, Lynchburg, on Friday, April 17, at 11:00 am.
