Kathryn Dowdy Willcockson
Kathryn Dowdy Willcockson, 79, of Lynchburg, VA died Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the loving and devoted SGM Harold Alton Willcockson. Kathryn was the daughter of the late Reynolds Dowdy and Esther James Dowdy.
She was retired from Aerofin Corporation and a member of Beulah Baptist Church where she was very active in the Sunday School. Kathryn was a member of the Red Hat Society, Sweet Adelines, and enjoyed square dancing. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother, and wife.
She is survived by her children: Brenda Thacker of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Donna Wenning and husband, Robert, of Reno, NV, and Joanne Bower and husband, Robert, of Palmyra; step-children: Brad Willcockson and wife, Anne, of Montana, Deanna Waldrop and husband, Wayne, of Montpelier, and Mari Newell and husband, Jeff, of Houston, TX; grandchildren: Derek, Ryan, Bobby, Christopher, and Alex; step-grandchildren: Katie, Michael, Rachael, Sarah, Gray, Clarie, Joshua, and Miranda; and a great-grandchild: Cierra. Kathryn was also survived by her sister, Margaret Dowdy, of Lynch Station, and numerous friends and her Sunday School connections. In addition to her first husband, Herman Phillip Hartless, she was predeceased by her brother, James Dowdy.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Lynchburg General Hospital, Neurological Services, Virginia Baptist Rehabilitation, and Dr. Carl Moore.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted Friday, October 28, 2011 at 3:00 PM Lynch Station Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Seay, and Rev. Becky Cloud officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 27, 2011 from 6:30 \"" 8:30 PM at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Burial will follow in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
