Katherine Irvin Hughes, 83, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2025. She was the wife of Bert M. Dunn, mother of Lee Hughes, and sister of John Irvin (Nancy).

Katherine was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on August 19, 1942, a daughter of the late Doral Irvin and Katherine Rinsland Irvin. Katherine attended and graduated from Mary Baldwin College and the University of Kentucky where she received her Bachelors in Art. She also graduated from Radford University where she then received her Masters in Art.

A prolific and lifelong artist in all mediums, including: sculpture, oils, acrylics, photography, and multi-medium compositions. She taught at Liberty and Jefferson Forest High Schools in Bedford County and Lynchburg Community College. She continued to create art until her death. Katherine was a lifelong Chicago Cubs and UVA sports fan, and parishioner of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for over 40 years. She also volunteered at the Centra Cardio-Pulmonary Rehab for over 20 years.

Katherine is survived by a step daughter Donna Coleman (Mike) of Lynchburg, a step-son Bertrum Thane Dunn of Richmond, VA, granddaughters: Ryan Legaspi (Leo) of Williamsburg, and Emma Martin (Andrew) of Lynchburg, VA, great-grandchildren: Ava, Ronin, Cooper, Brooks, Amelia, Renzo, and Raya, step-grandchildren: Nyla Jones (Jabari), Ena, and step-grandchild Olivia, niece and nephew: Nicole Ozawa (Eric ) and Rinsland Irvin (Lauren).

A Celebration of Katherine’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 12, 2025, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Todd Vie officiating.
