Juanita Phillips, 92, of Lynchburg passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2026 with her family by her side. She was the daughter of Lillian Blunt and Wray Wood.
She was born in Richmond, VA and moved to Lynchburg, VA with her family in 1973 where she lived for the rest of her life. During her years in the Hill City, she was deeply committed to Peakland Baptist Church, the Lynchburg Women’s Club and the Lynchburg Business and Professional Women’s Club. For many years she owned and managed the women’s dress shop “9 to 5 and After” on Main Street. She supported downtown and was delighted with its resurgence in recent years. She will always be remembered for her friendliness and positive attitude.
She is predeceased by her parents and Bill, her beloved husband of 56 years. She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Gwen and husband Peter of Richmond; son, Bill and wife Margaret of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Brian and wife Hannah, David and wife Anisha, Daniel, and Hollins; great-grandchildren, Weston and Emerson of Richmond; and sister-in-law Margaret Winn of Ahoskie, NC, who was like a sister for over sixty-five years.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, October 12, 2026 at 2:00 at Peakland Baptist Church, with inurnment at the church columbarium and a reception to follow in the church fellowship hall.
The family would like to thank the staff at Westminster Canterbury for their exceptional care for the past fourteen years.
