Joy Marine Banegas

Joy Marine Banegas, 67, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away on December 25, 2025, following an extended illness. She was born in Alexandria, VA, on April 30, 1958, the daughter of the late Elmer Harold Marine and Bonnie Lee (Finger) Marine. On May 21, 1983, Joy married Helmi Harold Banegas.

In addition to her husband Mrs. Banegas is survived by one son and two daughters: William Harold Banegas and wife, Carrie, and son Harold, of Lynchburg, VA; Pamela Joy Banegas of Warrenton, VA, and Jennifer Banegas Senseney and husband, Luke, of Warrenton, VA.

Mrs. Banegas was a retired administrative assistant of United Parcel Service (UPS), Raytheon Technologies, and a former teacher, Tabernacle Baptist Academy of Manassas, VA. She was a graduate of Fairfax High School and received her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Strayer University. Prior to relocating to Lynchburg, VA, she was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church of Manassas, VA. Joy will be remembered as a lover of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and music. She would often combine these loves through sharing music that honored her Savior with her church family.

In addition to her love of music and Jesus, she also loved animals, particularly dogs. Her treasured canines included Amadeus and Pinkie, and several granddogs: Dot, Maggie, Millie, and Fez

Family and friends will be received at the Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, VA 24502 on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 1:00 pm. Following the visitation, a graveside service will be held at Virginia Memorial Park,11490 Forest Rd, Forest, VA 24551, at 2:30 pm with Pastor Chad Brady officiating.
