Joy "Bena" Anderson

Joy "Bena" Anderson, 61, of Lynchburg, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 24, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her father, Sylvester Anderson Sr.; her longtime companion, Albert Paige Sr.; her brother, Orlando Anderson; and her sister-in-law, Laura Anderson.

Bena leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Virgie Anderson.

She is also survived by her siblings: Gwen Callaham (Carroll Callaham) Ricardo Anderson; Sylvester Anderson Jr. (Janice Anderson); Timothy Anderson (Lisa Anderson); Juanita Johnson (Garland Johnson); Russell Anderson (Amber Anderson); Jessie Ford; Lisa Reid; Tam Bradley; along with her devoted niece, Meka Bradley. She is further survived by her sister-in-law Carolyn Anderson.

Bena was a loving mother to her children: Jenita Anderson (Lamont Barbour); Jerika Anderson (Kennedra Payne); Jermaine Anderson (Jessica Anderson); Octavia Davis (John Davis); and Tyree Anderson (Tia Anderson).

She leaves behind a legacy through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Tatreal (Jasiel, Alayna, Ayden, Aasiah); Tariq; Faith (Raelynn); Lakayla (Jream, Kaiden); De'Quone (Julianna);

Koriyon (Jace); Gary; Ja'Corey: Gavin; Alana; Myles; Ari; Tyree Jr.; and Ariel Joy.

Bena was many things to many people. She was strong-willed, loving in her own way, and carried a heart that gave more than she often had. Her journey was not always easy, but through every season, she remained deeply connected to those she loved.

A celebration of Bena's life will be held at 12:00 p.m. of Friday, May 8, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. She will lie in state from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026.
