Joseph Victor Bruzek, 100, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence at Bentley Commons on Thursday, August 14, 2025. He was born on October 4, 1924 in New York City, NY. Joe is the son of the late Joseph Charles Bruzek and Louise Mary Bruzek. He was preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy Grace Fischer Bruzek and his second wife Mary Jane Lammers Bruzek.
Joe is a World War II Navy Veteran who interrupted his college education to serve as Quartermaster on the Naval Landing Ship LSM299. He was in the Pacific enroute to Japan when the war came to an end. Upon returning from the war, he completed his education at Columbia University and embarked on a long career working in the Steel Industry.
Joe is survived by a daughter Grace Finn (James) of Oswego, NY, and two sons, David Bruzek (Brenda) of Seminole, FL, and Raymond Bruzek (Doris) of Forest, VA; 7 Grandchildren, Kevin, Mary, Christine, Steven, Stephanie, Joseph and Thomas; and 2 great grandchildren, Emilia and Tobias. In addition, Joe is survived by a stepson, Francis Lammers (Lorna) of Port Washington, NY, 4 step grandchildren, Kristy, Meaghan, Casandra and Michele; and 1 step great grandchild, Teagan.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 3 PM, at the Forest Presbyterian Church. Joe’s loving cat, Ace, would suggest that those wishing to make memorials consider contributions to the Lynchburg Humane Society, 1211 Old Graves Mill Rd, Lynchburg Virginia 24502.
