John G. Overstreet June 15, 1947 - July 23, 2025
John “Johnny” Gurganey Overstreet was born on June 15th, 1947, and died on July 23rd, 2025. He was the son of Helen Lucas Overstreet and Jesse Floyd Overstreet. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Ronnie Overstreet. He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years Vickie Carson Overstreet; his daughter Carson Overstreet Glossop (Simon Glossop and his daughters, Sophie and Amelia Glossop); his son, Hunter Tazewell Lucas Overstreet (Jennifer Key Overstreet); two grandchildren, Ashby Wilkinson “Wilkes” Price and Garland Fariss Price; his sister, Helen Patricia Overstreet; his sister-in-law, Linda Carson Combs (Randy); his brother-in-law, Bill Carson (Suzanne); and nieces and nephews and their respective spouses, Emily and Tom Ryan, Nicklaus and Hannah Combs, Adrian and Camille Carson and Mackenzie and Cameron Dean.
He was a life-long Virginian, whose ancestors arrived at Jamestown in 1611. Johnny was a graduate of Bedford/Liberty High School, Hampden-Sydney College, T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond and Hollins University. He was a long-time member of Bedford Presbyterian Church and more recently, Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church (Richmond.) He served on a number of local boards of civic organizations in Bedford.
He began his legal career at Putney and Putney and later founded his own law practice. Johnny also served for many years as Bedford County Attorney as well as representing Bedford Social Services. Later he served as Appomattox County Attorney.
Johnny loved genealogy and was a member of many lineage societies. He was most grateful to serve as the President of the Ligon Family & Kinsmen Association.
