John "Jay" Martin, III

John “Jay” Martin, III, 51, of Lynchburg, Virginia departed this life on June 19, 2026, after a prolonged illness. He was born on November 2, 1974, to the late John Martin, Jr. and Phyllis Martin.

Jay attended Lynchburg City Schools and worked several jobs ranging from production to roofing. His most recent employment was with the News & Daily Advance. Jay loved sports and was a fan of the Las Vegas Raiders.

In addition to his father, he was proceeded in death by numerous aunts, uncles and close cousins.

Jay is survived by his children Jaide Ferguson, Jaylin Martin and Messiah Martin. In addition to his three biological children, he was blessed with a bonus child, Jay’la Ferguson; two grandchildren, Leo Callands and Dae’ron Smith; two sisters, Phyllis Fouche’ and Sherry Logan.

A celebration of Jay's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
