John C. Floyd

John C. Floyd, age 86, of Forest, VA passed away peacefully at his home on January 20, 2026. Born on April 14, 1939, in Amherst County, he was the beloved son of the late Ruth and Kinckle Floyd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Melvin, Leroy, and Cecil Floyd.

John is survived by his sweetheart of 70 years, and wife of 65 years, Shirley Martin Floyd. He is also survived by his daughter, Tara Wilmer (David), grandsons Travis Wilmer (Kasha) and Kyle Wilmer (Alisa), and great grandchildren Logan, Jaxon, Kaylee Wilmer, and Brayden Collier. Also left to cherish his memory are nieces Kimberly Arthur (Allen), Tami Smoot (Todd), Dawn Hanna (Bobby), Debbie Adams, nephew Cecil Floyd Jr, sisters-in-law Eloise and Pat Floyd, numerous great nieces and nephews, a special cousin Iris Caldwell, and goddaughter Caryn Caldwell Brown (Lee).

John grew up on a farm in Campbell County. He served 6 years in the US Marine Corps Reserves and retired from Framatome. He was known for his love of family and fondness for travel and especially enjoyed the mountains and the beach. He was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and on various committees.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 10-11AM at Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory, Lynchburg. A celebration of his life will follow at 11AM with Dr. Robert Putt officiating. There will be a private family burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Lynchburg Baptist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
