John E. W. Feese

John Edward William Feese, 56, died at his home on Sunday, May 26, 2013. He was born in Lynchburg on September 25, 1956, the youngest child of Joan Williamson Feese and the late Robert Clarence Feese. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Mark Feese. He is survived by a sister, Tamara F. Colagreco, a nephew, Robert J. Colagreco, and a niece, Angelica L. Colagreco.

John graduated with honors from Central Virginia Community College in respiratory therapy and worked for a time in that field. At the time of his death he was employed by the City of Lynchburg.

John was a true lover of the outdoors. He enjoyed kayaking, canoeing, hunting, fishing, rock climbing, ice climbing, mountain biking, hiking, backpacking and camping. He loved the mountains and hiked in Colorado, Vermont, New Hampshire, and West Virginia, as well as his beloved mountains of Virginia. He was incredibly attuned to nature, and was probably more at home in the woods than anywhere else on earth. He had a vast knowledge of edible wild vegetation.

He was a talented photographer and catalogued hundreds of pictures of wildflowers native to our area. He enjoyed writing, painting, designing, and drawing. John also spent many an hour on his computer and was a self-described computer nerd.

From the time John was first diagnosed with cancer, a brief two months ago, he faced his future with bravery and dignity. Our family would like to thank the kind people he met, and the good friends who visited and called him during his illness. We could never have managed to care for John at home without the help of his longtime friend, Layne Terrell, who spent many hours doing everything possible to help make John\"™s life more comfortable. Thanks, too, to Layne\"™s wife, Jana, who willingly shared her husband with us.

The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Virginia Memorial Park with the Reverend Dennis Roberts officiating.
