John L. “Bucky” Baity Jr.
December 4, 1944 – November 9, 2025
John L. “Bucky” Baity Jr., 80, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2025, surrounded by his devoted wife and family.
Bucky was the beloved husband of Gloria Ann Baity, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage and countless adventures. Together since the age of 16, their lifelong love was the foundation of their family and the greatest joy of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria; sons John L. “Terry” Baity III and Barry Baity; daughter-in-law Ashley Baity, whom he lovingly called the daughter he never had; and grandchildren Mollie and Bryce Rudisill, Marley Baity, Parker Baity, and Ireland Baity.
Bucky was a proud patriarch who instilled in his children and grandchildren the values of hard work, loyalty, and kindness. He delighted in watching them grow and celebrating their accomplishments—from Mollie’s college graduation and marriage to Bryce, to Marley’s faith and gentle heart, to Parker’s baseball skills and Ireland’s quick wit and humor. His family was his greatest source of pride, and he never missed a chance to brag on them.
Bucky lived life to the fullest—boating and fishing at Smith Mountain Lake, relaxing on the beach, attending NASCAR races and football games, and dancing with Gloria in their younger years. He loved a good conversation, a well-cut lawn, and any excuse to fire up the grill. His laughter, easy charm, and “professional” sports commentary filled every room he entered.
Bucky will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and love of family. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the hearts of those he cherished most.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Fort Hill Memorial Park. Friends are invited to join the family in celebrating his life.
