JoAnne Louise Harris

JoAnne Louise Harris, 86, of Forest, Virginia, passed away on March 22, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Raymond Merriman and Theresa Merriman.

JoAnne was born on April 22, 1939, in Brunswick, Maryland. She attended school at Brunswick High School. She pursued her career as a switchboard operator at the United States Department of Treasury. Later in life, she worked for many years at Walmart, spreading her joy to all customers she encountered.

JoAnne was a member of Tree of Life Ministries and enjoyed spending time with her loving husband, Preston (Tim) Harris, and dog, Stormy. JoAnne took any chance she had to spread the gospel to others. She was a loving child of God, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Wherever JoAnne went, you could feel her special loving presence and that will forever be missed.

JoAnne is survived by her children, Glenn Carter (Debra), Jake Carter (Linda), Robin Butler; stepdaughter, Susan Langdon; grandchildren, grandchildren, Matthew Carter (Ashley), Kristin Carter, Denice Harris, Brandon Harris, Colby Carter (Gussie), Ryan Maddox (Brittany), Madalyn Sullivan (Colton), Taylor Richardson (Tyler), J.T. Carter, Brady Langdon, Lilly Butler; and 10 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, JoAnne is preceded in death by former husband, Glenn Carter; son-in-law Shawn Butler; and stepson Barry Harris.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tree of Life Ministries.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 1pm at Tharp Funeral Home with Ray Kingrey officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the memorial services on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 12pm. Graveside to follow at Virginia Memorial Park.
