Joanne Hamilton Mays Hammock

Joanne Hamilton Mays Hammock, 74, of Evington, VA, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015.

Joanne was born February 19, 1941 in Lynchburg, a daughter of Eddie Hamilton and Ellen Worley Hamilton.   She was employed by Hamilton’s Café where she enjoyed seeing her friends each day.

Joanne is survived by a daughter: Denise Skinner and husband, Joey of Evington; three grandchildren: Joseph Skinner IV of Evington and Lindsay S. Beebe and husband, Scott of Lynchburg and Mary Lewis of Altavista; two sisters: Betty Murdock of Lynchburg and Nancy McGann of Evington, two brothers: Robert “Juna Bug” Hamilton of Lynchburg and Herman Hamilton of Lynchburg; a sister-in-law: Joann Hamilton; many nieces and nephews, great nephews as well as one great-great niece.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Curtis Hamilton, a sister-in-law: Hazel Hamilton; a brother-in-law, Jim Murdock,

A visitation will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg 24502 on Thursday, October 22, 2015 from 12:00 to 1:00pm.

A graveside will follow at Virginia Memorial Park at 1:30pm with Chaplain Kay Higgins officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lynchburg Humane Society, 1211 Old Graves Mill Road, Lynchburg, VA,24502.

The family would like to thank the staff of PACE for their care of Joanne. They would also like to express their gratitude for the excellent care provided by Guggenheimer Nursing Home staff, particularly her devoted friend and caregiver Jewell Hancock.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
