Jerrel Lee Hamlett age 58 of Maryland died Sunday, April 15, 2012, in Lynchburg.
Born February 9, 1954 in Brookneal, VA, he was a son of the late Mary Berkley Hamlett and the late Lawrence Hamlett.
Jerrel is survived by his wife of 30 years, Helen N. Hamlett, a son Trevor J. Hamlett, two brothers, Kent and Bruce Hamlett, three sisters: Hattie Santos and her husband, Aurelio (Jr), Betty Fray and her husband, Albert, and Mabel Sanders and her husband, Varry (Pie); three step children: Natalie Rollison, Theron and Nathaniel Nelson; a special cousin, Delia Hooks, two aunts and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jerrel was preceded in death by a step daughter, Erica Nelson.
Jerrel retired from the US Air Force, after serving our country for 20 years. While in the Air Force he took part in Operation Desert Storm.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. today, April 20, 2012 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with the Rev. Dr. Tom Bryant officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, April23, 2012, in Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, VA. Military honors will be provided by the US Air Force. The funeral procession will leave Tharp Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 23rd.
