Jean Davis Saunders, 83, of Lynchburg, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Jean Saunders was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and a true and loyal friend. She was the heart of her family—a steady presence whose love shaped generations.
Born on April 9, 1943, in Lynchburg, Jean was the only child of the late Onyx Stewart and Eva Ashwell Parker. She shared a beautiful life with her beloved husband, the late Earl B. Saunders, and together they built a life rich in love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Jean retired from Genworth in 2005, but her true life’s work was caring for others. She was an active member of Moose Lodge #1727, Women of the Moose, The 25 Club of Moose International, and a faithful member of Norwood Baptist Church. Through these communities, she formed lasting friendships and gave generously of her time and spirit.
Jean and Earl shared a joyful life together—camping under the stars, cheering on NASCAR races, dancing, and enjoying a good game of bingo. But her greatest joy was always her family. She had a special bond with each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating what she lovingly called “memory-making experiences.” She wasn’t just “Granny”—she was a teammate, a cheerleader, and a playmate. Whether it was badminton, football, softball, card games, or board games, Jean was all in—laughing, encouraging, and making every moment count.
She was deeply loved by her children, Kelly W. Davis (Faith), James P. Davis (Lisa), and her stepdaughter Teresa S. Brooks. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren Ashley, Shawn, Tyler, Levi, Amber, and Amanda, and her great-grandchildren Brady, Olivia, Aiden, Wesson, and Paislee. She also shared a special bond with her nephew Randy Saunders (Sharon), and their family, along with many nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. And of course, Jean’s love extended to her cherished canine companion, Sammy, who brought her so much joy.
Jean will be remembered for her unwavering love of family and friends, her warm smile, her quiet strength, and her kindness. She found joy in the simple, meaningful moments—time spent together, laughter shared, and love freely given.
Her life reminds us of what truly matters: showing up for one another, creating memories, and loving deeply.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 PM at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
In honor of Jean’s life and the love she shared, the family invites contributions to the Cancer Society in memory of Earl, or the Humane Society in memory of her beloved Sammy.
Jean’s love will remain with us always—in every laugh, every memory, and every moment we hold dear.
