Jean Mosier Maye Lane

Jean Mosier Maye Lane of Hardy, VA passed away, Monday, May 28, 2012 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born July 28, 1930 in Sumter, SC; she was a daughter of the late Eugene Tarleton Mosier and Beulah Way Mosier Avinger.

Jean was the loving matriarch of the family. She was the glue that held the family together always making certain that everyone\"™s feelings were considered and given proper merit. She was forever making certain that family vacations were thoughtfully planned and enjoyed by all. She was dedicated to her family and lifelong friends by always remembering important life celebrations. Jean was the quintessential southern lady. She was equally comfortable amongst the elite of the business and social world or those who may be less fortunate and in need. She was a dedicated believer in higher education, dedicating a scholarship in her name at Virginia Tech for incoming freshmen in the School of Architecture. She demonstrated her creativity in the arts through painting, local theater acting, and interior design projects. In addition, she was a successful owner and operator of Jean Lane\"™s Dress Shop in Myrtle Beach, SC.

She was a member of and supporter of Blacksburg United Methodist Church and affiliated with Huddleston United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph Arnold Maye, and Edward Hudson Lane, Jr., her brother, Richard Henry Mosier and her two devoted Yorkies..

Jean is survived by her two sons; Joseph A. Maye, Jr. of Tabor City, NC, Anthony E. Maye and his wife, Elizabeth of Moneta, VA, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, sisters; Brenda Mosier Atkinson Douglass her husband, the Rev. Dr. Carl H. Douglass, Jr. of Moneta, VA, Gail Mosier Gressette her husband, Reeves of St. Matthews, SC, brothers; Herbert A. Mosier his wife, Marianne of Navarre, FL, Rev. Eugene T. Mosier, Jr. his wife Jenny of Sumter, SC, and a sister-in-law, Janet L. Mosier, of Navarre, FL and God-daughter, Stephanie T. McCants her husband, Lynn of Mt. Pleasant, SC, many life-long friends and extended members of the Lane family.

The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.

Graveside services will be conducted 12:30 pm Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Green Hill Cemetery, Altavista with Rev. Melvin Harris, Rev. Dr. Carl H. Douglass, Jr. and Rev. Eugene T. Mosier, Jr. officiating.
