Janette Storm

Janette Browning Foster Storm, age 99, and a resident at Westminster-Canterbury, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday night, September 14, 2013.

Born in Hartford, Connecticut on September 25, 1913 to William and Charlotte Foster, she graduated from Stafford Springs High School (Connecticut) and attended Pine Manor Junior College, LaSalle College, and Wellesley College. At age 26, she married Carl A. Storm in 1939, beginning her life-long role as homemaker, supporting his professional life as a minister in the Unitarian-Universalist Society and a professor of sociology. Their journey together included stops in Exeter (New Hampshire), Lincoln (Nebraska), Minneapolis (Minnesota), Edinburgh (Scotland), Schenectady (New York), and finally Lynchburg (Virginia). Janette was married to Carl for 57 years until his death in 1996.

She was an avid member and supporter of the League of Women Voters.  

She was preceded in death by one son, Jon, and one grandson Derek. Janette is survived by one son, Mark (and wife Donna), two grandchildren, Helen Kylene Privette (and husband Calvin) and Josh Storm, and one great grandson, Liam, all of the Lynchburg area.

Janette\"™s family wishes to thank her dear friend and trust officer, Claudia Zapp Bailey, her long-time companions and sitters, Louise Adams and Moneake Hogue, and the staffs of Westminster-Canterbury and Senior Independence for their constant and long-term care, kindness, and friendship.

A memorial service celebration of Janette\"™s life will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 22 in Weissert Chapel at Westminster-Canterbury.

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Unitarian Church of Lynchburg, Lynchburg College, the Westminster-Canterbury Foundation, the Lynchburg Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.
