Dr. James Mulligan Rodman, 78, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away September 3, 2025. He was the son of the late Dr. George Hurst and Frances Rodman.
Jim was born on October 17, 1946 in Greenville, Kentucky. He attended undergrad at Bellarmine College then pursued his medical degree at the University of Kentucky, graduating in 1976, followed by his residency at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia. Jim practiced family medicine for 41 years in the Lynchburg area, retiring in 2020.
Jim was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed all things related to nature, such as growing his own plants, visiting the beach and hunting. He also loved golf, cooking, travel and spending time with family and friends, of which he had many. Jim loved being a doctor and was a founding member of the Seven Hills Medical Society as well as Central Virginia Family Physicians. He also proudly served on the board of Roads to Recovery for many years.
Jim is lovingly survived by his wife Bobbie Rodman, his daughters, Erin Rodman and Katie Rodman, and his soon to be son-in-law, James Lovelady. He was beloved by a large extended family, by blood and marriage, that includes his siblings Charles Rodman and Jack Rodman.
In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his sister Ellen McVay and his brother George H. Rodman, Jr. We expect them to greet him with open arms.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Roads to Recovery or Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
A memorial service will be held on September 22, 2025, at 2pm Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Dennis S. Roberts officiating. A visitation will be held immediately after, at the church.
