James Hampton Meeks, Jr.

James Hampton Meeks, Jr., 83, of Lynchburg, VA, died Wednesday, October 28, 2020. He was the loving and devoted husband of the late Doris Lynn Hawkins Meeks, for 61 years.
Born Thursday, August 26, 1937 in Washington, D.C., James was a son of the late James Hampton Meeks, Sr., and the late Charlotte Kane Meeks.
James is survived by his children, James H. Meeks, III (Robin), Thomas H, Meeks (Rick Doyle), Vernon L. Meeks (Kendra), five grandchildren, Anthony Meeks, Chris Wright (Brandi), Ricky Lee Meeks (Taylor), Jennifer Meeks, and Evan Meeks; a great grandson, Brayden Lee Meeks, Caregiver and family friend, Ruby Lott. He is also survived by a brother, David L. Meeks, a sister, Marilyn Jean Lisberger (Charles), brother-in-law Lee Hawkins (Jan), and numerous nieces and nephews.
James was devoted to his family, and raised them to show respect to others. He was a devoted parishioner at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. He served in the US Naval Reserves for eight years. He retired from GE/Ericsson after forty years of service as a tool and die machinist. He enjoyed Nascar, gardening, and was an avid fisherman.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Monday, November 2, 2020 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A Graveside service will be conducted at 12:00 PM (Noon) on Tuesday, November, 3, 2020 at Presbyterian Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
