Hugh Board Bragg Jr., 78, of Lynchburg, Virginia went to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 25, 2025 while surrounded by his family. He was the son of late Hugh Board Bragg Sr. and Veola Barnard Roark. He is survived by his half-brother Wayne Roark.
Hugh was born on July 11, 1947 in Altavista, Virginia. He attended Gretna High school. There he met the love of his life Shirley Owens Bragg. They were married 58 years. He owned his own body shop in Altavista Virginia. Throughout the years, he restored many cars but he most loved to work on 55 and 57 Chevrolets. He then worked as an estimator for Traveler’s Insurance for 34 years. When he retired in 2012, he still spent his time working on cars. He was a member of Fire on the Mountain Car Club at Thomas Road Baptist Church where he would drive his prized 67 Chevrolet to be displayed. He also loved vacations with friends and family and antiquing with his wife.
He is survived by his daughter Tammy (Tony) Cox and her children: Lori (Josh) and her sons, J.B. and Josiah; Leslie (Jason) and her children, Mason and Skylar; Trevor (Emily) and his son, Nolan; and Tanner. He was preceded in death by his daughter Beth Bragg Jones, who is survived by her children, Landon (India) and Hailey, and their father Jason Jones. He is also survived by his son Jonathan (Aerial) Bragg and his children: Elias (Chloe) and his daughter, Ellie Beth; Autumn, Grace, Ava, and Aiden. He was loved by life-long friends Larry and Wanda Arthur, Ken and Jan Pruett, Larry and Dawna Johnson, and countless others.
In 1968, Hugh got saved at the Altavista Baptist Tabernacle. Hugh then served at Penuel Baptist Church in Altavista for 27 years as a deacon, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and as a member of several committees. He attended Thomas Road Baptist Church for 30 years while servign 18 as a usher. One of his favorite bible verses is Phillipians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

A funeral service will be held Sunday, November 30, 2025 at Thomas Road Baptist Church (Pate Chapel) at 2:30P.M. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 29, 2025 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg location between the hours or 6:00P.M. - 8:00P.M.
