Herman Lewis Walthall, 74, of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away on June 19, 2026.
Herman was born on July 18, 1951, in Lynchburg, Virginia, to the late Herman and Louisiana Walthall.
He was a great baseball player and attended school at Dunbar High School. Herman was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church in Phenix, VA. He enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, playing cards, and was a diehard San Francisco Forty-Niners fan.
In addition to his parents, Herman is preceded in death by his sister, Roxanne Walthall; aunts, Violet Ghoston, Theresa Carter, Margaret Reid, Arizona Gaines, Marshia Brogdon, Mary Dixon, Marilla Gaines and Frankie Ghoston; uncles, William Johnson, Sam Ghoston, Jr., and William T. Ghoston.
Herman is survived by his children, Sharon (Vernon) Pannell, Angela Witcher, Tracy (Cordell) Myers, Crystal (MacArthur) Myers, Herman (Cindy) Walthall; grandchildren, Tiani and Vonte’ Pannell, Dominique Long-Walthall, Jasmine and T.J. Long, Destiny and Amaya Walthall, Christian Myers, Brianna Walthall, Brendan Myers and Ahlisa Walthall; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Symone Williams, Jeremiah Threatt, Nolani Long; siblings, Samuel Walthall, Elizabeth Walthall; one uncle, Thomas Ghoston; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Herman's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. The family will be receiving family and friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
