Henry Boggs Wright, Sr., 92, of Madison Heights, passed into the Life Eternal on Monday, June 17, 2013. Born February 13, 1921 in Amherst County, he was a son of Minnie B. and Edgar J. Wright, Sr. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Alice, his beloved daughter, Nita, his brother Charles, and his sister, Chiquita.
Henry was long time member of the College Hill Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran having served in the Army Air Corps in Labrador. After working many years as a journeyman printer, he retired as a foreman in the United States Government Printing Office. A Mason, and a Shriner, he also attained the Pilgrim Degree of Merit in the Loyal Order of the Moose. In retirement he devoted himself to diabetes education, gardening, and his family and many friends. He loved to share a good story and offer a little advice on topics ranging from financial management to how to grow a good tomato.
Survivors include his son Boggs (Susan), brothers Edgar J., Jr., and Richard H. (Ella Louise), sister-in-law Jane Wright, son-in-law Scott Hulick, and seven nieces and nephews. Henry leaves six grandchildren: Angela Corvin (Anthony), Russell Wright (Bridget), Amy Marshall (Mark), Stewart Hulick, Erin East (John), and Scotty Hulick (Kim), and five great-grandchildren: Amanda and Adam Marshall, Jacob Corvin, and Jack and Courtney East. One of his great joys was being Pawpaw to his family.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the College Hill Baptist Church, 1101 Floyd Street, Lynchburg, VA 24501, or the Monelison Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 56, Madison Heights, VA 24572. Visitation will be at 10 A.M. on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home in Madison Heights Chapel with the funeral service following at 11 A.M. Burial will be in the Briarwood Memorial Garden.
